Juan Gabriel Vásquez, reconocido escritor colombiano de una nueva generación, recorre a lo largo del largometraje las huellas de Gabo, revelando la maestría de su arte, viajando hasta los lugares que fueron la fuente de su inspiración y recorriendo el portento prodigioso de su memoria. La voz misma de Márquez es retomada de los mejores archivos periodísticos que se han preservado hasta la fecha, con el fin de darle nueva vida a su humor, pasión y agudeza característica.
